Detailed Program
Day 1 Dakhla
Meet in the Hotel, and drive to Dakhla oasis. Lunch is at mid way in Baharyia Oasis, check in Hotel in Dakhla.
Day 2: Selima Sand Sheet
Breakfast at the hotel, load the vehicles, pick up the military officer, and finally head toward the great emptiness of the desert. Cross the great and flat Selima Sand Sheet keeping a SW course heading toward the majestic Uwienate Mountain .
Day 3: Selima Sand Sheet
Breakfast is served in camp and travelers give a hand reloading the vehicles. We resume our venture into the heart of the Libyan Desert across the monotonous landscape of the Selima Sand Sheet.
Day 4: Uwienate Mountain – Karkur Talh
Arrive at the Mountain of Uwienate Mountain, explore Karkur Talh, a nice spot for our base camp.
Day 5: Wadi of the Known Sites
Wake up at leisure and following breakfast we explore the wadi for the Known sites. Take our time for photographing one of the most brilliant and awesome prehistoric sites of the Great Sahara
Day 6: Wadi of the Known Sites – Karkur Talh
Wake up at leisure. Today we explore the wadi for the Known sites in the western branch of the wadi. We will return to our camp for lunch and head back to the inner branches of Karkur Talh for more sites. Following lunch we will move base camp deeper into the westernmost branch of Karkur Talh.
Day 7 Mountain hike, Robin's Site
Early rise to climb to the summit of the majestic mountain; it is a strenuous trek that will test physical and mental endurance; those travelers who are not physically fit or afraid of the challenge are welcome to stay in the camp and enjoy further wall paintings. We will be stopping every hour for rest and restore our power. It will take us 5- 6 hours to get to the gap that will lead us to the summit. Explore the new discoveries found in the years 2003 and 2007. We set up a bivac camp at the gap close to our greatest discovery, the Robin's Site.
Day 8 Mountain hike, Nour's Site
A very early rise is essential to reach the summit and return before noon; it should take us around 4 hours both ways and enough time to make it back to the base camp before sunset. On the way down we stop at Nour's Cave discovered in 2003.
Day 9 Karkur Murr – Wadi Wehesh
We remove our second base camp to drive to Karkur Murr where we can have a wash and if necessary replenish our water supply. We camp at the entrance of Wadi Wehesh- or Karkur Naam (my own naming). We explore the wadi for the known sites and look for more sites.
Day 10 Un-surveyed Wadi
Venture further west to explore an un-surveyed wadi. We spend all day exploring this narrow yet long and deep wadi.
Day 11 Selima Sheet
